Workshop Details
Something that’s often forgotten or left behind in web development is accessibility. There’s a misconception that accessible sites are boring and old school, and even a myth that assistive technologies don’t support JavaScript. While in fact, we can produce innovative and inclusive web applications. This workshop will teach you to remove barriers to access that might prevent people with disabilities from using a modern web application. We’ll study accessibility in UI components, primarily with React and Gatsby.js, but with knowledge applicable to all JavaScript-heavy web stacks. We'll learn how to properly test our UI components, and we’ll test for accessibility at the page level as well with browser-based, end-to-end test coverage. To support users without client-side JavaScript enabled, we’ll also look at Gatsby's server-side rendering and progressive enhancement.
